As part of the ‘savoury science’ theme of the 2026 Science Festival, the chemists at CEISAM aim to take the public on a sensory journey through the world of chemistry. Visitors will be able to experiment for themselves with complex concepts, such as molecular chirality: we will be demonstrating these virtually identical molecules, which differ only in a single geometric feature, yet have completely different odours. We will also explain the chemical processes at work when we cook.
CEISAM will be running a demonstration stand where visitors can enjoy chemistry through a range of experiments. By the end of these, we hope that the public will no longer associate chemistry with danger, but with pleasure and satisfaction.
