The SYMBIOSE research group (SYnthesis, Multistep chemistry and BIOSciencE) brings together 21 researchers with recognized expertise in molecular chemistry.
SYMBIOSE designs the molecules that will enable tomorrow's diagnostics and therapies. By combining synthetic chemistry, chemical biology and molecular imaging, the team develops innovative synthetic methodologies and functional molecules—including therapeutic agents, fluorescent probes, theranostic platforms and (photo)catalysts—to address major challenges in human health. From fundamental proof-of-concept studies to clinical and industrial translation, SYMBIOSE benefits from a highly interdisciplinary environment, a strong collaborative network, and a well-established culture of innovation.
The research activities of SYMBIOSE are organized around four interconnected research themes:
- Vectorization (prodrugs, lipoproteins, peptides, etc.)
- Medicinal chemistry (antiviral, antifungal, oncology and cardiovascular applications)
- Molecular imaging (near-infrared fluorophores, theranostics, multimodal imaging and fluorescence-guided surgery)
- Synthetic methodology (radical chemistry, (photo)catalysis and heterocyclic chemistry)
