MassChem National Network Meeting – Nancy, France

The AMaCC platform was invited to present its work at the 1st National MassChem Network Meeting, held on 1–2 June 2026 in Nancy. The event brought together mass spectrometry facilities and researchers from across France working in the field of chemistry.

The presentation, entitled When the molecular ion is missing: Challenges in the interpretation of Mass Spectrometry data for coordination complexes”, was delivered by Laurence Arzel. It provided an opportunity to highlight and discuss a common issue in mass spectrometry: the absence of a clearly identifiable molecular ion. In the case of coordination complexes, this situation makes data interpretation particularly challenging due to fragmentation, changes in charge state, ligand exchange, and the formation of secondary species.

Beyond the analytical aspects, the discussion emphasized the importance of an integrated approach combining a sound understanding of the chemistry of the system under study, careful selection of ionization conditions, comparison with isotopic data, and close collaboration with synthetic chemistry teams.

This meeting further highlights the national recognition of the AMaCC platform and demonstrates the value of a national network dedicated to mass spectrometry facilities in chemistry, fostering the exchange of best practices, practical experience, and scientific expertise.
