Simon Pascal, a researcher at the CEISAM laboratory, has been promoted to Second Class Research Director in Section 14 (Molecular architectures: syntheses, mechanisms and properties) following the 2026 CNRS competitive selection process.
Simon joined the CNRS in late 2016 as a research fellow at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Nanoscience in Marseille (CINaM, Aix-Marseille University). In 2023, he joined the CEISAM laboratory at the University of Nantes, where he continues his research at the interface between organic synthesis, coordination chemistry and supramolecular interactions, functional materials and spectroscopy.
His work focuses primarily on the design of chromophores and fluorophores derived from various chemical families, such as polymethines, quinones and macrocyclic compounds, in order to study their interactions with light. His research aims to develop strategies for controlling and modulating their photophysical properties, particularly in the near-infrared. This spectral range, which lies outside the visible spectrum, offers promising prospects, both for the development of new emissive probes for bioimaging and for the conversion of solar energy in photovoltaic cells.
